Experience

In offering socially and environmentally responsible advice on all aspects of the placemaking and regeneration process Gerry Hughes (FRICS/ MRTPI) draws over 40 years of practice as a market-leading planner/surveyor – setting urban regeneration strategy, advising on delivery approaches and obtaining planning permission for complex development.

This experience has spanned public, private, community and voluntary sectors and encompasses some of the most high-profile regeneration projects in the UK.

This deep professional experience is combined with extensive project and organisational leadership experience across the UK, Europe and North America.

His philosophy on the symbiotic relationship between people and the built environment defined the Purpose which guided GVA during his tenure as CEO, influencing Avison Young after the merger of the two businesses.

He has operated at CEO and Board levels. He is an Honorary Professor in the School of the Built Environment, Queen’s University Belfast and is currently a Trustee of Maritime Belfast.
